New menu at The Boathouse

Earlier this week Mum and I spent an afternoon on the deck sampling The Boathouse Restaurant's new menu, which will be available next week.

The sun was out, chilled tunes were playing in the background, and a cool breeze was flowing through the trees, making for an absolutely gorgeous summer afternoon.

We were served an entree, three main dishes and dessert to share, accompanied by two glasses of vino to compliment our meals, and coffee.  All of which were polished off with only a few garnishes left on our plates!

TO START

Roast Fig on crisp eggplant with dukkah rolled chèvre and herb salad served with a glass of Foxeys Hangout Pinot Gris 2011

The perfect way to start a meal with a light and tasty entree.  The sweet roasted fig was complimented by slices of warm crispy eggplant and cool creamy dukkah goats cheese (chèvre) and a chilled glass of Foxeys Pinot Gris.

This was my favourite dish for the day and I will definitely be returning to enjoy a whole serve to myself sometime soon!!

MAINS

All three main meals were very well thought out with with complimentary elements of crisp, creamy, sweet, spicy, colour and texture.

Pan seared kangaroo with pancetta in marsala sauce with celeriac puree, roquette and pinenut salad

Perfectly cooked kangaroo, salty pancetta, with creamy celeriac puree, marsala sauce and a fresh salad with crispy beetroot chips.  We couldn't get enough of this dish and were very tempted to lick the sauce off the plate!!

Macadamia crumbed pork cutlet on wild honey hummus with radicchio, sugar snaps and grilled peach

I wasn't too sure about the grilled peach at first but I am a big fan or pork with fruit and the warm sweet peach complimented the nutty pork extremely well.  The wild honey hummus was divine and I am always a fan of crisp green veggies with any meat dish.

Gippsland eye fillet on parmesan crouton with shiraz jus and sautéed vegetables served with a glass of Shadowfax Shiraz 2009

A beautifully cooked steak with the perfect accompaniments of veggies, a sweet, rich but light red wine jus, and a glass of shiraz.  A parmesan crouton was hidden under the steak for a delectable cheesy surprise.
Mum and I thoroughly enjoying our meals

DESSERT

Peppered Pineapple, banana doughnuts and an orange crème brûlée

Pepper is definitely not my favourite seasoning but actually worked well with the sweet pineapple and custard, a kind of spicy sweet dessert option.  The crème brûlée had a nice crack to the top and a creamy custardy consistency.

A soft sweet banana surrounded in a light and fluffy cinnamon coated batter... The banana doughnuts were amazing!!

Skinny latte

SCENERY

After finishing our coffee's, Mum and I continued to enjoy the beautiful scenery, chatting and enjoying the summer sunshine.

Until next time fellow foodies...

The Boathouse Christmas Function

Just a quick little post with some photos from my work Christmas Party at The Bouthouse Restaurant late last year...

We were very lucky with beautiful weather which allowed us to make best use of the indoor/outdoor function space on the lower level and balcony of the restaurant overlooking the stunning boardwalk, gardens and creek.

A 'mini bar' was set up in our function area and we were welcomed with a great selection of local Geppetto wines from Crittenden Estate, and local beers from Red Hill and Mornington Peninsula Brewery's.  There was no shortage of beverages with staff readily available for a top up.

Drinks were promptly accompanied by a great selection of delicious bite sized canapés...

Mini Bruschetta - Ripe Roma tomato, fresh herbs and garlic oil

Soup Shooter - Pumpkin and coriander with coconut cream

Topped Blini's - House cured salmon, chive and avocado cream

Seared scallop spoons with sesame and soy

Individual Tartlets - Roasted vegetable, pinenuts and fetta

Paper Cones - Battered flathead tails with dill aioli

We also enjoyed Spicy beef with Thai basil salsa bamboo skewers and Shredded duck and vegetable spring rolls which were snapped up so fast I didn't get the chance to take a photo!! I was assured both were delicious.

A big thank you to The Boathouse, Todd and the girls for an amazing night.  All staff had a great time and were very impressed with the service, beverages and amount and selection of canapés, we were very well looked after!

Until next time fellow foodies...
